Airtable integration

Airtable is a spreadsheet-database hybrid that works well as a data source for directories, catalogues and job boards. Framer has an official Airtable plugin that syncs a table into Framer CMS; Webflow uses third-party sync apps like Whalesync; on Astro and Next.js we read the base with the official airtable client at build time.

Setup by platform

How we set up Airtable

  • Framer

    • Native

Framer’s Airtable plugin authenticates, maps fields (references, images, files, links, dates, galleries) to a CMS collection and remembers the table for one-click re-syncs.

  • Webflow

    • Zapier or Make

No first-party Airtable app for Webflow is listed. Whalesync gives a two-way sync with Webflow CMS; Make’s Webflow modules work for simple one-way flows.

  • Astro

    • API

The airtable client reads rows at build time with a scoped personal access token from a server secret, and images are downloaded into the build.

  • Next.js

    • API

The same client in server components with cached, time-based revalidation, so traffic never hits Airtable directly.

Use cases

What teams use it for

  1. Directories and listings

Partners, tools or locations kept in Airtable and published as filterable pages.

  2. Job boards

Roles managed in a base by the hiring team, live on the careers page after a sync.

  3. Catalogues

Product or template catalogues where ops edits data and the site stays in step.

Before you add it

What to watch out for

  • Limits

Five requests a second per base

Airtable allows 5 requests per second per base and asks you to wait 30 seconds after a 429. That is why we read at build time and cache.

  • Limits

    Attachment links expire

Attachment URLs from the API expire after a few hours. We download files and host them with the site.

  • Security

    Tokens act as your account

Personal access tokens act as the user who made them. We scope them to one base and read-only, and keep them on the server.

Can the site call Airtable from the browser?

The library allows it, but it exposes the token, which acts as your account. We always read Airtable on the server or at build time.

Why do Airtable images stop working on a site?

Attachment URLs expire after a few hours. The fix is to download the files during sync or build, which our setup does.

Airtable or the platform’s own CMS?

If the data is edited by ops or used outside the website, Airtable as the source makes sense. If only the website uses it, Framer or Webflow CMS is simpler.
