Mailchimp integration

Mailchimp runs email lists, signup forms and automations. Framer has a built-in Mailchimp form component, Webflow forms post straight to Mailchimp with a custom form action, and on Astro or Next.js we add subscribers with the official @mailchimp/mailchimp_marketing client from a server route, with tags for each signup source.

Setup by platform

How we set up Mailchimp

  • Framer

    • Native

Framer’s Mailchimp form component takes the form URL from your Mailchimp embed code; we style the inputs and button to match the site. The Input component handles single-field email signups.

  • Webflow

    • Native
    • Zapier or Make

There is no official Mailchimp app for Webflow. A native Webflow form posts to Mailchimp with Custom Action and POST, with field names matching Mailchimp tags like EMAIL. Zapier or Make add tags and sources.

  • Astro

    • API

Our own form posts to an endpoint that adds or updates the member with @mailchimp/mailchimp_marketing and applies a tag per form. The API key stays on the server.

  • Next.js

    • API

A server action with the same client, returning a clear success or already-subscribed message instead of sending people to a Mailchimp page.

Use cases

What teams use it for

  1. Newsletter signup

A footer or blog signup that tags subscribers by the page they joined from.

  2. Lead magnets

Download a guide, join a list, get the welcome sequence.

  3. Event and launch lists

A waitlist page that feeds a separate tag for launch emails.

Before you add it

What to watch out for

  • Consent and GDPR

    Site tracking needs your banner

Connecting a site installs Mailchimp’s script and tracking pixel, which set cookies. Mailchimp says managing that consent is your job, so it loads through your banner.

  • Data layer

Data is stored in the US

Data sits on US servers, with EU transfers under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. There is no EU hosting option.

  • Data layer

    Field names must match

Custom form actions only work when input names match Mailchimp’s merge tags exactly. We map them once and test with a real address.

Does Mailchimp have an official Webflow app?

No. Webflow’s integration page says so and points to native form actions, embeds, Zapier or Make, and the API.

Can Mailchimp data be hosted in the EU?

Not according to Mailchimp’s docs: its servers are in the US and EU transfers rely on the Data Privacy Framework and contractual clauses.

Can the form keep our site’s design?

Yes. In Framer we style the native component, in Webflow the form is a normal Webflow form, and in code we build the form ourselves.
