comparison at a glance

So, which one should you choose?

The final choice usually comes down to one question: is your website mainly a store, or a content and marketing site that also sells?

  • Webflow is usually better if:

Content and brand come first: a marketing site with a blog and case studies, plus a small catalog or a few products sold on the side.

  • Shopify is usually better if:

Selling products is the business, and you need a reliable checkout, inventory, payments, shipping, taxes, and room to grow into a large catalog.

  • Shopify plus a headless frontend is usually better if:

You need Shopify’s commerce engine with a fully custom brand experience. A frontend in Astro, Next.js, or Hydrogen uses Shopify for products and checkout.

Year-one cost

What the first year costs on each, side by side

One typical setup, priced the same way for both platforms. Pick a new build or a straight migration, then add maintenance if you want it.

  • 3 people editing it

We quote migrations after a URL inventory, so “Custom” is left out of the totals.

Our work costs the same on either platform, so the platform line is the only difference: $708 to $1,284 against $948 a year. Next to the build, it rarely decides the choice.

Which one works better with AI agents?

More teams want Claude or other AI agents to update pages, styles, and content. Here is how each option handles that today.

  • The code-based option

An Astro frontend lets agents edit the whole design while Shopify runs checkout.

  • Agents and your store

Shopify’s Dev MCP and AI Toolkit give coding agents current docs and API schemas.

  • Review before it’s live

Webflow logs every agent change. Shopify themes can sync to GitHub for code review.

Questions for Webflow vs Shopify

Send us your current site, goals, and what your team needs to manage after launch. We’ll help you choose the right setup for your business.

Is Webflow better than Shopify?

For content and marketing sites, usually yes. For stores, usually no.

Webflow gives you more design and CMS control. Shopify gives you a stronger checkout, payments, inventory, and app ecosystem, which matters once selling is the core of the business.

Is Webflow Ecommerce good enough for a real store?

For a small catalog, it can be. Webflow’s Ecommerce plans cap the number of items, and the entry plan adds a transaction fee.

If you need subscriptions, complex shipping, many apps, or a large catalog, Shopify is the safer choice.

Is Webflow or Shopify better for SEO?

Webflow is usually stronger for content-led SEO: blogs, guides, and landing pages with full control over structure and schema. Shopify is solid for product and collection pages, but its URL structure is fixed.

Some brands run content on Webflow and the store on Shopify for this reason.

Can I use Webflow and Shopify together?

Yes. You can link a Webflow marketing site to a Shopify store, or embed Shopify buy buttons in Webflow pages.

For a single, seamless experience, a headless frontend built on Shopify’s APIs is the cleaner long-term setup.

Which one costs less?

Webflow usually costs less for a content site with a few products. Shopify adds payment fees and app subscriptions, which grow with your sales.

Once you sell at volume, those costs buy commerce features you would otherwise have to build.

Can you migrate from Webflow to Shopify, or the other way?

Yes. Products and customers can be exported and imported, and content pages can be rebuilt on either platform.

We plan redirects and SEO first, so search traffic and product links keep working after the move.

Can DesignMe build in both?

We build in Webflow, Framer, and custom code (Astro and Next.js). For stores, Shopify can stay the commerce engine behind a Webflow site or a custom frontend.

We’ll help you decide which split makes sense before anything is built.
